He was awarded Ph.D from University of Madras in 2010. He finished his post-graduation and M.Phil research programme in the same discipline at Madurai Yadava College, Madurai. He did his graduation in Bsc Physics at Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi. Further he did his higher secondary education XI and XII standards at Islamiah boys Higher secondary school, Vaniyambadi a nearby place form his hometown.
P.Sivaraji was born on 04 th of April 1965 at a village named Ramanaickanpet under Thirupattur District.He pursued his school education from I to VIII standards at the place of his birth and IX to X studied at Ambalur village. The special feature of the Department is Kavirathri being organized for instilling interest among students in writing poems in Tamil and participating in poetry competitions on the model of Urdu Mushaira.ĭr. The other faculty members are also contributing for the development of the Department and the student community by the scholarly publications. Sivaraji, the present head of the Department was honoured by the Government of Tamilnadu on two occasion with Thamizh Semmal (2018) and Maha Kavi Bharathiyar award (2019) for his contribution to Tamil literature. Abdul Kadar, the popular Orator was bestowed with the honor Kavimamani and Umaru Pulavar Award (2017) by the Government of Tamilnadu.ĭr. He received several awards like Kalaimamani Award (1989), Bharthidasan Award (1989), Ashara Award (1992), Sirpi trust Award (1996), Kalaignar Award (1997), Rana Literature Award (1998) etc. He was awarded Sahithya Academy Award - Tamil Language (1999) for his remarkable and famous poems “Aalabanai”.
Abdul Rahman the well known Tamil Scholar, Poet, Orator and great thinker served as the Head of the Department for more than three decades and worked for the development of Tamil Language and Literature in this region. The Government of Tamil Nadu recognized this achievement and arranged centenary celebrations of its publication in 2015 at Islamiah College. Kurunthogai, one of the eight anthologies was collected from the palmyra leaves and published by the first Professor of the department Thiru Sowriperumal Arangan. Its contribution to the language is immense. The objective of the Department is the promotion of Tamil Language and Literature among the rural students of this region. The Department of Tamil was established in 1921.
